Submission Requirements

Below guidelines are critical to making the reviewing process uniform across all applicants. We will be unable to accept applications that do not follow the guidelines. If anyone needs help with language or the process we are happy to assist.

For all categories:

  1. You may apply as an individual artisan or group of artisans. A social enterprise or non-profit can help to apply for the artisans. The cash prize and other related opportunities will go to the artisan/s.

  2. The award is not for brands this year but you are very welcome to nominate artisans and help them apply.

  3. You may submit application for maximum 2 categories. For each category, you can submit maximum 2 product designs but as individual applications for one product each but not combined. Only jewelry category can have 2 products in one application

    Example: you can apply in Hand weaved or Surface design or Decor and Endangered Craft or Textile and Jewelry if Jewelry is made of Textile.

  4. You can apply with an existing work but should not have been submitted for another award.

  5. You are required to submit a minimum of 5 high-resolution images for each product. There must be a sketch of the design for judges to see how your idea looked pre-finish. You will not be judged on the quality of the drawing, it is to understand your process.

  6. Fill the application form with a description of the product and design inspiration, technique and materials used in minimum words as asked in the form.. The form is live now for submission.

  7. Please submit your professional background details in at least 200 words.

  8. Entries should include as much detail as possible, including images of all sides of the product. with details of what material is used in its making. Please make sure to submit product images against a plain background as well as one stylized version.

  9. For best results, make sure your images are a JPG or PNG file cropped to a 4:3 format, are at least 1000 px wide, and are no larger than 4MB.

  10. Products submitted as entries to the competition must be available for shipping. The finalists in textile, jewelry, and decor will be requested to ship the products for quality check and Jury selection. The shipping cost (both ways) will be borne by the organizers as reimbursements. Artisans must find the best quotes and reliable shipping partners to send the samples.

  11. Judges love to see images of work in progress, please make sure you take a few besides the above 5 images.

  12. A video of 60 sec talking about yourself, your submission will be required for all the finalists to qualify for the final round.

When do you have to submit your entries?

  • Fill the pre-registration form to be assisted with the application: Open now

  • Submission of entries (images of products, description, profile and motivation): By 14th August 2022

  • Announcement of semi-finalists : 27 August 2022

  • Announcement of finalists: 13 September 2022

  • Shipping of products by finalists: 15 September 2022

  • Exhibit in New York: 10th October 2022

  • Private artisan Showcase: 1st & 2nd November 2022

  • Announcement of Final winners and conference: 7 December 2022, tentative

After all the submissions have been finalized, the jury will start the process of the official selection. The first level of screening will be based on all the images and write-ups submitted by applicants.

This process is to select the qualified entries (top 10 semi-finalists each in textiles Handweaved and surface design, 10 in jewelry and 10 in decor) and prepare them for the finalist jury voting. 

From the semifinalist the finalists will be selected as 5 for handweaved, 5 for surface decor, 5 for jewelry and 5 in decor. Upon selection, all finalists have to submit physical products by the aforementioned deadline and send us the tracking number. The jury panel consisting of leading professionals of each category of design, fashion and sustainability movement will assess the entries and vote on the finalists and winners of the competition.

Submission Requirement for:

Textile Category

  1. The judges will need to understand what will be the application of the textile design. Example will it be used for a dress, top or a home decor item or as a stole. The minimum length will be based on what the textile will become. We recommend submitting a minimum of 1 meter of work. We do not want the textile to already be used as a clothing, bag, and so forth. But if its in a flat form like a quilt that is acceptable as judges will still be able to see it as a length and width.

  2. Materials must be sustainable materials. The application form will require you to explain how is it sustainable and where is it sourced from. Give as much details as possible

  3. How is your process conscious and unique such as less waste, reusing waste, can inspire others

Jewelry Category

  1. Please submit if possible atleast 2 items of jewelry in one application, whether a ring or a bracelet or necklace and bracelet so that judges can see a continuity of the theme and craftsmanship across the pieces. On the application form although it says one product, only for jewelry we can accept more than one product in one application for the reasons above.

  2. Handmade by the applicant should be made by using the techniques of casting, welding, forging, soldering, carving, or created with any combination of these techniques. The design has to involve a technique where the design is forged from the raw form of a material.

  3. Materials must be sustainable materials. The application form will require you to explain how is it sustainable and where is it sourced from. Give as much details as possible

  4. How is your process conscious and unique such as less waste, reusing waste, can inspire others

Decor Category

  1. We will accept handcrafted products by the applicant that are 3 dimensional in nature and are used for decorative purposes using techniques such as basketry, pottery, sculpture to make vessels, vases, and art pieces etc for floor and surface tops.

  2. The dimensions have to be within 15” height X 10” width, weight to be maximum 6 kgs. If it is delicate then applicant must cover the insurance and we will cover the shipping.

  3. Materials must be sustainable materials. The application form will require you to explain how is it sustainable and where is it sourced from. Give as much details as possible
