Who is an Artisan?

An artisan is a skilled individual who creates original and high quality handmade products with a unique design focus using traditional methods in the process. They make these products themselves or with the assistance of a team and take responsibility for sourcing and finishing the product.

You can apply in at least 2 categories

TEXTILE

TEXTILE

Category 1
Handweaved textile using eco-friendly materials and practices.

Category 2
Surface decor developed using techniques such as hand painting, hand embroidery, lace making, hand applique, quilting and block printing

JEWELRY

Handmade jewellery, an artistic piece of adornment made by the techniques of casting, welding, forging, soldering, carving, embroidery or created with any combination of these techniques. The design has to involve a technique where the design is created from the raw form of a material. Another way to approach this category is creating with earth, metal and glass materials.

LIVING SPACES - DECOR

LIVING SPACES - DECOR

This category includes handcrafted products that are created using unique design ideas, skilled techniques and with eco materials. Techniques such as basketry, pottery, sculpture, and fibre, will be received.

ENDANGERED CRAFT AND REVIVAL

We strongly support the effort of the communities working with crafts on the verge of extinction or are in the process of revival. This category invites artisans from crafts listed by a credible organisation, a craft council or museum as endangered OR are working on revival of textile, jewelry and living spaces - decor.

There must be:

  • A master artisan to teach the craft.

  • A community or one family who can begin learning the craft and then bring more members into this fold.

  • A community whose livelihood depends on its conservation and revival.

  • Efforts are in motion to prevent extinction of the crafts by promoting or working on its revival. If not then you are still eligible to apply.
