ENDANGERED CRAFTS - Revival and Conservation

With every new list of “Endangered Crafts” or “Crafts in Urgent Need of Safeguarding” published, the light of tradition and culture diminishes a little. The loss of these crafts means a loss of heritage, culture and history dating back to ancient times. However, not all hope is lost, thanks to the torchbearers below who have been working hard towards keeping these crafts alive and trying to brighten the fading light.

Tejsi Marwada

Tejsi Marwada from India belongs to a family of weavers and learned the art of spinning wool from his grandparents. He also crafts camel straps & Kharad which he learned from his father. Kharad is a technique that uses animal hair and plant-based yarn woven on an ancestral loom to create products of strength and beauty. Kharad rugs are created using handspun yarn made out of Aakda (milkweed plant) and sheep wool.
