Porgai artisans association is a registered society of Lambadi women artisans. The traditional hand embroidery of the Lambadi community of Tamilnadu was almost extinct for three generations since the women shifted to wearing sarees from the traditional dress. Neela & Gammi, the founder artisans had the curiosity to learn the craft from their grandmothers when they were small girls. The craft that they had learned then remained dormant in them till they came forward to train some younger women in the craft in 2006.
