Textiles represent cultures and traditions, life, dreams and creativity of makers and so much more. They are art forms carrying messages from the universe generation after generation. The art of ornamenting & decorating the surface of a fabric by hand is soul-fulfilling to makers and becomes precious possession for many. Here we have, the makers offering precious possessions.
Dayaben Dohat
Dayaben Dohat was 10 years old when she learned Soof Embroidery from her mother Raniben Bhanani. In 1990, she received a national award for the same and also got many prestigious awards for this work (State Award, Best Karigar Award, Kala Nidhi Award, etc). When she received the national award, she started the NGO - KALA RAKSHA with her brother Prakash Bhanani at Kutch along with 5-7 ladies. She started Soof Embroidery in her society with a little group of women and currently works with 500 artistans.
